It never rains in Southern California / That's the close-up of the rock (taken through a telescope on the beach!). It's called "Bird Rock", because birds used to inhabit it until a few years ago when owners of the golf-course on the beach cleaned bird feathers (and other bird offerings) off it. Since then it's become a seal and sea-lion hang-out. 1/20/2004
